“Tui in the Sounds” is a wonderful work that was part of a series of South Island works John did between 2001 and 2005. The magnificent scenery of the South Island that he experienced during his several journey’s down to Punatapu Lodge in Queenstown as Artist in Residence were the catalyst for these painting. This painting was included in the “Southern Lights” Exhibition in Wellington in 2003. The mountains in this work are the Southern Fiords.
